Insecurity in Oyo State: Towards a safer Oyo State.

Blame game/Opposition game A wise man once said, "When you keep blaming others for every situation you're in, someday you’ll begin to look like you’re the mistake all along". This holds true of our politicians in Nigeria. When a new government spend a good portion of its administration to point fingers on the failures or bad gimmicks of the old/displaced government instead of thinking outside the box to proffer solutions to the dilemma at hand, soon they will start to appear incompetent and an excuse seeker. Blame game has been a sad trend in our polity in this country. The APC government at the federal level elected in 2015 spent their entire first term blaming the deposed PDP government for insurgency and insecurity. Yeah, this state of insecurity ended the PDP reign of 16 years and the same is about to end the APC reign because they've also failed to keep the nation secured. They are now a victim of the situation that brought them to be. I hope this same trend  won

Who puts me to blame?

Who puts me to blame?  When I watched the weak flame  Go dim on the wick frame Again I ask, who puts me to blame  For burning the flame low?  Or losing the onset glow? When long thoughts I’ve had in silent stir  And many nights observed in quiet stare  Yet… not anymore Tease my soul no more Groped too long in this cage of craving No more can my soul take this evil aching Put me not to blame for killing this dying flame Save my soul the blame game for pulling my heart outta the game

Crossed Road

“Is the tube rightly plugged?” Henry shouted as he struggled to screw the valve in place but failed at it again. Unaware of the blotch of oil on his backhand, he wiped at the balls of sweats laced on his forehead and left a smudge of oil stain on it instead. The 5 by 8 spanner wrench he has in his hand won’t bolt the loosened valve, leaving him frustrated.  “Is it plugged?” Simeon asked Henry from under the minivan where he laid to his back holding a rag to cover the leaking valve. With a sudden gush, a spurt of engine oil poured from the open valve into his mouth as his hand slipped from the opening. He scampered out from under the van, spitting profusely to get oil out of his mouth.  “Sorry Simeon, take some water,” Elizabeth said as she offered him a bottle of water.  “Sorry guys, but is there any progress with the repair?” She further inquired.  “I don’t see this van going anywhere. We do not have the right tools to fix the damage,” Henry replied.  “Jesus! But this is the middle

E ba mi w'aduke (The quest for Aduke)

From the couch where I scouted, I heard a shout come from the South. No doubt, my bout of search backed by my stout passion to remain on this route is about to sprout a good result. I raced quickly down the base of the hill at an unbelievable pace with the expectation to unveil the face behind the veil. Alas, a new case of total disappointment and a new phase of utter disgrace. What bellowed below was just the echo from a vast fallow land with no tracks to follow. My mind had played a fast one on me with the whistling of the nearby thistles and my heels waited for no further epistles before it sprinted foolishly down the bushy hill. I know the familiar tune of mock that played in my head as my eyes sorrowfully traced the row of thistles back to the top of the high hill from where I had just descended. I looked ahead into the fallow emptiness to know what clue to follow next. My feet stayed glued to the ground as the pains from the descent now take its effect. I know I have to overcome

How to start your business without capital (The five loaves and two fishes of business).

In Mark's account of the feeding of the Five thousand, I find some great business lessons in the narrative on how to start your business without capital. But Jesus answered, “You give them something to eat.”  They said to him, “That would take more than half a year’s wages! Are we to go and spend that much on bread and give it to them to eat?” There was only one instruction above, "give them something to eat!" But the epic response was "it would take more than half a year's wages." The responder was quick to make calculations. Many entrepreneurs are in the position of this responder today. The instruction would often be, 'Go and start that business', but the response most often would be, "Where would I get such capital funding?" Or "I would require 10million to start the business as I would like it." You know what Jesus did to resolve the situation in the opening story? He asked what they had at hand. "How many loaves do yo

The Oyo I want: youth engagement in Oyo state.

I think right now I can start to ask my governor what he has done for us, educated youths, budding entrepreneurs with creative ideas needing capital, and skilled young artisans seeking the necessary tools for business operations... please add yours if I did not capture your class/case among the above portfolios. The time is over boasting about what is being done for our parents by duly giving them their deserved rights (salary), the time is over bragging about paying our grandparents their entitled privilege for their tireless years of service. Now is the time to ask, what fate is ours, the youth of Oyo state to build a future we desire. It's time to ask, not just what the plans are because we are tired of learning about unexecutable plans, but we desire to know the actions being taken to meaningfully engage young graduates, educated youths, skilled artisans, and vibrant entrepreneurial business ideas!  I'm pained to hear about Billions of Naira for bus terminus!!! Or should I

Amotekun, dead on arrival?

It was a bright evening as we marched through the bush path towards an earthen well in the thick forest to fetch some water back to the camp.  Few miles towards the described location of the well, a young ambassador veered off path to cut a tree branch and he was immediately dragged back by another ambassador as he pointed towards a partially buried tree branch on the ground. He said that was a sign to warn about a trap. Lo and behold, he was right, there was a trap. The ambassador grew up in an agrarian village and understood how to navigate forests following certain signs of nature and hunters. It dawned on me, that the act of forest navigation is an art and also a skill Western States security network (operation Amotekun) was put in place to checkmate the activities of killer herdsmen. Why would it be imperative to have an outfit that would assist the military and other para-military outfits to end their menace? Simply because the military and police have failed and are inadequate w
