A Lover's Prayer

E ba mi w'aduke (The quest for Aduke)

From the couch where I scouted, I heard a shout come from the South. No doubt, my bout of search backed by my stout passion to remain on this route is about to sprout a good result. I raced quickly down the base of the hill at an unbelievable pace with the expectation to unveil the face behind the veil. Alas, a new case of total disappointment and a new phase of utter disgrace. What bellowed below was just the echo from a vast fallow land with no tracks to follow. My mind had played a fast one on me with the whistling of the nearby thistles and my heels waited for no further epistles before it sprinted foolishly down the bushy hill. I know the familiar tune of mock that played in my head as my eyes sorrowfully traced the row of thistles back to the top of the high hill from where I had just descended. I looked ahead into the fallow emptiness to know what clue to follow next. My feet stayed glued to the ground as the pains from the descent now take its effect. I know I have to overcome

Back up in case of a break up?

Do you know that your backup plan can lead to the break up of your existing relationship? (Especially in open relationships.) Marriage counselors will always advise building a relationship on 'trust' because many relationships break because of distrust chiefly caused by infidelity and insincerity. Does a backup plan amount to infidelity? Infidelity can be broadly defined as the breaking of a promise in a romantic relationship, whether such promise was a part of a marriage vow, a privately uttered agreement between the lovers, or an unspoken assumption. With this definition, it is quite clear that keeping a secret 'back up' relationship amounts to infidelity in a committed relationship. Heartbreak is a bitter experience many persons don't want to experience, hence their reasons for a backup plan. However, wouldn't it be foolish if you are the architect of your own heartbreak by keeping 'secret relationships' that eventually break your relations

Twerking into marriage?

Many are twerking their way into marriage instead of praying their way in. Watching most marriage reception programs on IG is quite disappointing. Newly wed couples display well rehearsed dance steps on the dance floor but when it's time to say prayers, they mutter and stammer few words. Do you observe the bridal entry in most marriages today? You will see the energy the ladies put into dance rehearsals to twerk their way into the venue. Same with the guys too. They would "gbe-body and gbese" all the way in. I totally understand the joy of the moment and it's really not a bad thing for someone who has adequately prepared for the marriage journey. What many youths prepare for nowadays are for wedding ceremonies and not marriage itself. They forget that wedding is only a ceremony that last few hours while marriage lasts a lifetime. If you could spend resources and time to ensure that the few hours wedding ceremony is "loud gan" (a talk of the town), while

To the yesterlove

Could it be that we drifted off fate by drifting apart? Could it be that we were meant to be? Can we go back in time to the yester year when we parted ways? To the very same path we trod to our seperation. Maybe, there lies the clue we missed. Could it be? But, what if it was meant to be. What if we weren't meant to be. Could it be fate doing what it does best, using circumstances to drift us apart to the right path of destiny because we weren't meant to be? Could it be...? What if? What if our union was a threat and they needed to get us apart? Isn't that a likely possiblity? That we were caused to be drifted and made not to be by powers afraid of the union? No! But all things they say works for good to those who love God. Or don't we love? Maybe it was a one sided love! Yes, that could be. But destiny has our fate and our faith is in the God of destiny, so why worry about our fate. Yes no cause for worries! But we have a part to play! What part to play? What

The date with no car!

Can we turn up without cars, probably on a bike (okada)? Let's have the cars remain in the garage and see the lady who cares to stay, the lady who will see beyond the moment's 'ride' but into what rides the future. It all begins to matter, when we don't have to 'steal' daddy's car to impress or don't have to brag in mummy's financed tuxedo to woo. When all she wants is you and not the showoffs. When she can feel secured to be bare faced and bare minded with you in a hearty talk. It all begins to matter when what attracts you to him is your inner beauty and not the expensive 'makeup'. When your nude is covered by his strength, honesty and care. When you don't have to be perfect or hide behind 'perfection' to please him. The perfect date night is not that expensive eat out, in a posh and sweet scent car, that will end on the bed of immorality. No! A date is an avenue to meet and not a venue to eat or impress. It can be as

The slay Queen makeup scam!

I remember how girls mocked guys whose belt and shoe colors don't match, Yet the slay Queens own face and neck don’t even match. Some of them will say they don't like it when men put on stripe shirts and tie, I wonder what they have to say about their own "Joseph coat" facial makeup of many colors. Before you build the foundation of marriage on a slay Queen, you better find out what is under the foundation of their skins. I met a certain lady that completely hid her Ogbomosho tribal marks under the foundation of Marykay (apologies Ogbomosho people), only to be exposed at night when the party was all over and the "masquerade became human" with skin deep tribal marks. I heard some of them even sleep with makeups still on just so as  never to be caught 'unfresh'... Skin deep tribal marks are even still pardonable, but the kind of deception marks and character flaws that some ladies cover up this days has caused regrets in the lives of many young me

The wedding party.

I witnessed a wedding party that had a budget of 1.8 million Naira, but the groom was practically underemployed or literally unemployed. Quick analysis, the groom needed help with job before the wedding and approached several people for help but only got sympathy and promissory gestures. When he went round with the wedding IV, they promised to handle the financial and logistics responsibilities. At the end of the event, assessment estimate showed that a total of 1.8 million Naira had been spent by family and friends to ensure the jobless couples wedding was a success. If only the groom had the 1.8 million Naira in support towards his ideas. He had nursed starting a networking and technical lab for years but couldn't raise the capital. "People are wicked", he concluded after the assessment. Yes, he saw it as wickedness for people to spend so much at his event when he needed help to make ends meet with a source of livelihood. Is it really not wickedness when people hav

To the unknown woman

To the woman the world is waiting to know. As the days go by, I sit by the Riverside waiting for your love to flow by. Where else can home be on earth if not inside your heart. The world says all that glitters is not gold, but the one thing that glitters in my eyes is the golden you. I've had enough to dream of a future with you  so much my hopes are full to the brim. My queen, though the world may not have met you yet,  and the time may yet not be ripe for the fanfare, but at least some romantic letters we can exchange. I hope you get to read this letter before our meeting so our discussion can be romantically straight to the point. Even in your absence, I feel the aura of your presence so strongly with a deep feeling of the kind of couple we'll be. You can't imagine that most times I giggle in silence as I play your personality in my head and preempt your response and reactions to situations... oh what a synced and teleporting life we will live. As I write this l

Ass-set

I once saw a bum padded jeans that looked like an astronaut suit on sale and I pondered who will go through the inconvenience to have this on! I learned there are pads for the boobs as well. But Why all these "padded" stress nah? Stress? How dare me, belittling these great assets that have now very important "wares" in the gallery of slay Queens. So padding them is not considered a stress. They will do all it takes to ensure the "ass" is set for its seductive duty. Thereafter, every tinted car windows will become a mirror to check and recheck the ass-set on the go.. oh my! Yeah I understand, to some it's a "follow come" natural endowment while some others have to pad it. Natural or padded, they all play the same role to the carrier and the viewers' which is, the loosing of minds. I once knew a lady who goes berserk over lovely comments about her bum. If you want her to blush just compliment her well rounded bum. Well, it's her time

An open letter to an old lover!

We have seen scams in this world but non like the emotional scam. I can't imagine I blamed myself so hard for what transpired between us back then. Ashey all na scam. My encounter with Madam SU, who was so spiritually strict, that "naughty" was a worldly word not in her saintly dictionary and must never be used even to flirt with her. I don't know if there can be a course for holy or saintly flirting and I will be the first student to enroll. She was a Saint and in my mind, I am the one to step up to her level, even when fate had other plans for my "unsaintly" status then. She was so spiritually strict that men steered clear. Don't call her by her full name and see her wrath. Hmmm, it was that strict. Truly, I may have fumbled too, I admit I may have hastily ruffled the waters, and who wouldn't be so agitated by such elegance, intelligence and charm in a Christian woman. Yet, it wasn't much a big deal as she escalated it to be, casting me ou

The scam of "holier than thou"... The campus fellowship life.

Honestly we've been scammed. Seriously o! I'm not joking. I can't believe this was the usher that barred a lady from entering the fellowship auditorium back then because she had a jean trouser on. Now see her in tight fitted jeans. I remember how they stopped many at the door for not having headscarves on, now see them in long loose braids. It was the brothers own that was more scamful (permit me to use that word). You will know them back then by their parachute dresses that they will never slim fit, but now see them o! The way they tag you a bad boy for very flimsy things ehn, thank God they are not God. If you dare side hug a lady back then, you were heading to hell in their kinda judgement. I remember someone once told me I needed sanctification over the diction of a romantic poem I once wrote. I remember a time I was accosted at the door by a lady on my way sneaking out of fellowship one time. Don't mind me too, it was my practice to always sneak away from fell

Relationship advice: How to build a strong relationship 2

So how can one start to build a strong relationship? Like constructing a treehouse, building a strong relationship that will result in a glorious marriage takes some careful actions. The ideal dream: It all starts with a dream of the ideal life we desire. My friend and I dreamt of a treehouse where we could take naps when bored and we had a pictorial vision of what it will look like in mind. Similarly, couples aspiring to go into marital relationship must have a mental dream of the ideal home they wish to build. The passion for this dream must be so strong enough to push them into actualizing it. The architectural plan: At this juncture some pertinent questions must be answered: "what will it take to achieve the ideal dream"? It is time to put the mental vision into pictorial sketch in an architectural framework. This helps us understand the possibility of the dream and the materials needed for its actualization. Architectural plans can be simple and can also get

Say me well to Love

Once beaten twice shy Twice beaten is why I cry what fate is mine under the sky If love thirsts to make me cry Twice daggered at the junction of fate There is canal bleeding at Love's gate Many souls are cast towards losing faith What faith can condone this bloody fate Say me well to earthly love For I am done with its immoral bluffs Say me well to mortal love I have had enough of its rip offs As I sty off thy streets May tears stay off my cheeks As I take on a clean love sheet May my sour love become sweet Tayo Okanlawon

Zoned: Brother-in-love!!!

We all know about the "friend zone", yeah it is the popular one of all zones. There is the brother zone, Pastor zone, Uncle zone and now I hear there is a "brother-in-love" zone...wow! O ye brothers accept my condolences with these "zoning" heartbreaks. Just when a man thinks he is making headways with the relationship, ladies come up with all sort of zones. The latest one is what 'shook' me most. How can you call someone "brother-in-love"? It seems ladies nowadays are not ready or willing to commit to a serious relationship anymore. Or what is the reason for these zone boxes they put men into? What do you think pls? Tayo Okanlawon

Will God show me who to marry in a dream?

I've heard some Christian brothers saying they got a revelation of who to marry in a dream. So I tried it out too My prayer was simple and straight forward, “Lord show me my wife”, then off to bed I went expectant to see her in a dream. Did she come in a dream? Unfortunately there was no dream that night or the following nights for the rest of the week. It was a week of grave spiritual silence with no clues received as regards the requested revelation. This marked the beginning of the quest for the revelatory dream for the divinely chosen woman, expecting her disclosure in a revelatory ‘Indian-movie-like’ dream. Don’t blame me for waiting on a dream to receive the revelation. Having heard tales of men getting convinced on whom to marry after seeing their wives-to-be in a dream especially by a well or spring, with such woman serving them a cup of water in the dream, many of us also seek such manner of confirmation on whom to marry. Hilarious right? Whether true or not, mos

Can a Christian brother marry a Muslim woman?

We agree that there is only one Almighty God that Christians and Muslims serve. But when it comes to the matter of marriage, it is 'haram' for the Muslims and the Christians also see it as 'unequally yoke' marrying from the other religion. One quick fact I must establish is that Christian couples can be unequally yoked too. It doesn't have to be with a Muslim-Christian combination before couples are "unequally yoked" How? Read more The concept of unequal yoking is derived from the farming practice of yoking animals with farm machinery for farm work. A pair of oxen (or other animal) pull the wooden beam. The idea is to pair two animals of equal strength, size and type together. If the animals are not of the same strength and size, the weaker one is not only going to slow the stronger down but also in danger of death (if the stronger fails to slow down). With this conceptual explanation, it can be put forward that a christian couple can be unequal

Is it me or God that will choose who I'll marry?

For sometime now there has been argument on choosing a life partner as a Christian. Many Christian brothers are looking for divine confirmation of who to marry while some are just following their heart to make the choice. Speaking with a married Christian brother on the issue, here is what he has to say: "If I had known the choice was mine to make... I had lost a lot of potentials who waited for me to pop the question while I was waiting to hear a divine voice to tell me who exactly, the brother said. So how did you eventually make the choice, I asked. "I just choose the person my spirit went with", he responded. The question remains who's choice is it? And what role does God play in it. To answer the question point blank, the choice is yours to make, God's role is to guide you or bring you to the right person. You can choose to accept who God brings or not, it is all your choice. -Tayo Okanlawon Drop your view on the matter in the comments box.

He must be tall, handsome and driving a car!

"He must be tall, handsome, rich, driving a car and with a well posh house", she said. I simply smiled and asked her, in short you need a ready made husband? So what are you bringing to the table then? What do you have to offer him? She squints her eyes at me before replying..."like hot romance, I'll satisfy him with my body', she said. Is that all? I asked, but she was clueless how to answer the question. I guess she must have been thinking 'what else'.. Please what more can a woman bring to the table in a relationship? She was double dating! How to handle a cheating partner.

I never knew she was double dating. I felt foolish finding out the way I did, and I felt more foolish when my friends told me they couldn't believe I did not see the truth all the while we dated. They didn't want to be the breakers of the bad news, so they let me be. Mr. B said bitterly. My Response: (Thinking aloud) If only he knows that I've unknowingly been an "assistant boyfriend" before too... What advice can I give this new comrade now? Lols. Add this experience to your CV, I told him. Every experience is a lesson.  Learn from it and move on. One day you will present that resume and the world will bow in respect. Though finding out may be painful but you really need to move on. She may plead and claim the other person was a side gig, but you never can trust her on that cos she may be playing the same story at the other side too. But if you're sure she is sincerely in love with you and she's sober of her action indeed, then you may consider a
