Honestly we've been scammed. Seriously o! I'm not joking. I can't believe this was the usher that barred a lady from entering the fellowship auditorium back then because she had a jean trouser on. Now see her in tight fitted jeans. I remember how they stopped many at the door for not having headscarves on, now see them in long loose braids.
It was the brothers own that was more scamful (permit me to use that word). You will know them back then by their parachute dresses that they will never slim fit, but now see them o! The way they tag you a bad boy for very flimsy things ehn, thank God they are not God. If you dare side hug a lady back then, you were heading to hell in their kinda judgement. I remember someone once told me I needed sanctification over the diction of a romantic poem I once wrote.
I remember a time I was accosted at the door by a lady on my way sneaking out of fellowship one time. Don't mind me too, it was my practice to always sneak away from fellowship before benediction. I never knew anyone would notice let alone a strange lady I knew not. As I sneaked away that night, she let out a comment "there he goes again" (in Yoruba). I looked back to see who it was and there she was staring at me lousily like I owed her something. I knew her not, aside from the fact I knew she was a fellowship member. I simply walked away though.
I later heard the hypocritical gist that entrailed my actions. It was then it dawned on me that I had only been deceiving myself thinking I was sneaking out. Some actually noticed and discussed about it behind, though I was never confronted. There was the story of a beautiful lady too that was begrudged for her "too social life" with men. She was denied access to join the unit she intended to join as a result of this judgement. The lady in question eventually learned about this judgement and the fact that someone had been assigned to trail her to get all the info about her. She simply bailed out and left the fellowship for another in annoyance. I'll pass no judgement because that won't make me better too. But that action was castigated by my roomies and those who heard about it back then too
Today, I see many of the so called "brothers and sisters" living the lifestyle they so condemned others for back on campus. Did they backslide? No! Probably they discovered that sanctification is more a thing of the heart and inner conviction, than physical religious show off. Maybe? Or maybe it is all a practice for the moment.
