The scam of 8am-5pm... The Lagos life

They say resumption is by 8am and closing by 5pm. Huge scam!!! When actually the time starts to count the very moment you wake up to prepare for work, be it 4am (or 3am for some Lagosians). The management care less whether you sleep on the roadside in a gridlock after you clock out of work, you must by 8am the next morning report for duty.

December 2018, I witnessed fully what Lagos workers call life. I arrived Lagos by 7pm and headed for my accommodation at ibeju...to cut the looong story short, Lagos traffic ensured I got to ibeju 12mins past 1am midnight. Yes you read that right 1:12am! That is not even the essence for the story. In the causeless gridlock that caused the delay, there was a staff bus of accelerate TV beside us. I saw the staffs already asleep in the bus. The lady closest to the window where I was seating, had her head against the window in high discomfort trying to catch some sleep, but she didn't have the space like the man beside her who was already in Dreamland. She just kept writhing in discomfort in her suit dress.

Guess what! By 5am I was on the road to catch up my appointment for the day which was still by 8am by the way but in Lagos, you don't gamble leaving early. I was shocked when we drove past the same staff bus of last night, it was packed by the road side. I took a peep inside the bus and I saw this same lady, in the same suit dress, at the same window seat of last night and the same man beside her. Could they have slept by the roadside? I asked my driver. "That won't be strange if it's there they slept, that is Lagos for you", was my driver's response. They must have agreed to just sleep by the roadside to make 8am resumption. Considering the time we got out of the gridlock last night, many of them may only have 2hours of sleep at home before they have to jump on the road again, so what's the use of going home again! Christ!

There was also the story of a banker who crashes with security men at security post from Monday to Friday and only goes home for weekend. What a life! Oops, and that reminds me, I hear Lagos parents now pick up children from school with Uber cause they wouldn't be able to make it back to work. Should this be? What remuneration can compensate for this kind of bondage? What is the way out of this savagery pls?

U.I Awo Hall Executives (Team Standard 2018) Cleared of Alleged Misappropriation of Funds

The two-year war that raged between the executive members (2018/19) of the Obafemi Awolowo hall (Awo Hall) University of Ibadan and the allegations laid against them by their Hall Warden has been settled, with the executive members exonerated of all charges.  It was gathered that the excos had been alleged of misappropriation of funds and lack of accountability by the hall warden Dr. Mrs. Adedoyin Aguoru, which led to the dissolution of the executive body and a taint on the personalities of the executive members. In a joint letter signed by the president and made public by the executive members, it was made clear the proceedings from the investigation and the eventual acquital verdict given by the Students Affairs Division of the University. Below is the content of the letter:    Re: Misappropriation of Funds and Lack of Accountability   This is an avenue to state in clear terms the true state of affairs during our tenure as Hall Executives other than allowing the earlier false impres

Insecurity in Oyo State: Towards a safer Oyo State.

Blame game/Opposition game A wise man once said, "When you keep blaming others for every situation you're in, someday you’ll begin to look like you’re the mistake all along". This holds true of our politicians in Nigeria. When a new government spend a good portion of its administration to point fingers on the failures or bad gimmicks of the old/displaced government instead of thinking outside the box to proffer solutions to the dilemma at hand, soon they will start to appear incompetent and an excuse seeker. Blame game has been a sad trend in our polity in this country. The APC government at the federal level elected in 2015 spent their entire first term blaming the deposed PDP government for insurgency and insecurity. Yeah, this state of insecurity ended the PDP reign of 16 years and the same is about to end the APC reign because they've also failed to keep the nation secured. They are now a victim of the situation that brought them to be. I hope this same trend  won
